The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association will hold its 6th Annual Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit on January 24, 2012. The 6th Summit will feature a larger trade show and a new venue – the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines.

IRFA is pleased that four-star General Paul J. Kern (U.S. Army Ret.) will be a featured speaker addressing the dangers of foreign oil dependence to U.S. military operations. General Kern served numerous positions during his prestigious 37-year career, including Commanding General of U.S. Army Materiel Command, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division of the Army's Experimental Force and personal advisor to the Secretary of Defense. He led the 24th Infantry Division's attack into Iraq in 1991, served two tours of duty in Vietnam and is the recipient of three Purple Hearts. General Kern currently serves as the Chairman of the CNA Military Advisory Board.

"We're honored to have General Kern as a presenter to talk about the perils of America's dependence on foreign oil and how this reliance threatens our national security," said Lucy Norton, IRFA managing director.  Other Summit highlights include the national outlook for biodiesel, the newest ethanol blend – E15, and the balance between ethanol and livestock production, Norton says.

Summit is free and open to the public, but pre-registration required

The summit and trade show, being held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Participants can register online at www.IowaRFA.org, where they'll also find additional links and information relating to the Summit.
