Livestock producers and ranchers at Husker Harvest Days have an opportunity to visit with livestock company representatives, breed associations ambassadors and watch several different demonstrations. Husker Harvest Days is scheduled for September 10, 11 and 12 just west of Grand Island, Neb.

Dedicated livestock area at show
Located at the corner of 8th Street and West Ave. in the northwest corner of the Husker Harvest Days show site, the Livestock Industry Building is home to cattle handling demonstrations.

Cattle handling demonstrations
Cattle handling demonstrations will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. These demonstrations highlight side-by-side comparisons of various manufacturers’ squeeze chutes and cattle handling systems and information on advances in vaccination and implanting devices. 

Equipment, health, feed and breeds
Comparison of squeeze chutes isn’t the only cattle-related activity at this corner of the HHD show grounds. In the west end of the cattle-handling building, livestock animal health companies, feed companies and other livestock exhibitors will have booths. Outside, will be exhibitor lots in which manufacturers of fencing materials, livestock waterers and haying equipment are located. This is also the area of the show grounds where multiple breed associations will provide information for visitors and have displays.

Stock dog training demos
Stock dog demonstrations are being welcomed back to HHD. Members of the National Cattledog Association will be presenting demonstrations four times daily at Husker Harvest Days – 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Demonstrations will vary from young inexperienced dogs to seasoned older dogs to give visitors an idea of the training involved.  Stock dog demonstrations will be located north of Flag Row.

Horse training demos
Lifelong horseman and rancher Ron Knodel returns to demonstrate his techniques and share his wild horse gentling philosophies. Knodel’s demonstrations begin at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. daily in Lot 1054. Working with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Knodel’s demonstrations entertain as much as they inform. This is the perfect venue to pick up a couple of ideas to take home and use with your own horses.

Plan to attend
Husker Harvest Days, set for Sept. 10, 11 and 12, is located west of Grand Island, 1-1/2 miles north and 2 miles west of Alda in central Nebraska on Husker Highway. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 13-17, and ages 12 and under are free. Adult tickets are available for sale on the Husker Harvest Days website and at the show gates.
