Mark your calendars! A Heart of the Farm - Women in Agriculture conference will be held at the St. Croix Inn, 11390 South 5th Street, Solon Springs on Feb. 21. 

The Heart of the Farm-Women in Agriculture conference series is a University of Wisconsin-Extension program that is committed to addressing the needs of farm women by providing education on farm business topics, connecting them with agricultural resources and creating support networks.

This conference provides women with the opportunity to network with other farm women; and learn about farm business arrangements, how farm women can make a difference and how to balance your life. A special session on wine and cheese will end the day. The conference begins with registration at 9 a.m. and will end at 3:15 p.m. with door prizes.

Topics and presenters include:

Is it a Three-Ring Circus or Balancing Act? Join four women in discussing how they balance farm, work, family and personal priorities. Kara Berlage, North Star Homestead Farms, Hayward, WI; Lisa Soyring, Soyring Farms, Maple, WI; Jayne Ross, Beef Producer, Douglas, WI, and Renee Middleton, Dairy Producer, Town of Oakland.

Farm Succession: Joy Kirkpatrick, UW-Extension Outreach Specialist, UW Center for Dairy Profitability. This session provides an overview of issues to consider as you develop, communicate and implement a succession plan and provides participants with helpful resources as they begin the process.

Keeping Young Hearts Safe on the Farm. Jane Anklam, UW-Extension Douglas County agriculture and horticulture educator. This session discusses the ages and stages of youth development and how to prevent common farm-related injuries for the different age groups. Steps to take in an emergency and first aid resources will be also be discussed.

Managing Your Farm Records: Otto Wiegand, UW-Extension Burnett, Sawyer and Washburn Counties agriculture agent. Otto will be covering what a record system is, basic needs for record keeping systems, what records to keep, how long to keep them, and how to get things organized for your taxes and lender. Also, learn about different types of financial record keeping software and where to find information about them.

Ice Breaker: Chair Massage. Theresa Vogel, L.M.T., Associated Bodyworkers and Massage Professional. Theresa is certified in pre-natal and post-partum massage therapy, myofascial release, and cranio-sacral therapy. She will be providing 10 minute chair massages throughout the day.

Lunch will be catered by Rich’s Cuisine, providing exceptional food and professional service within any budget specializing in authentic ethnic recipes and home cooked food.
