Grant County Tops State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest

Team will represent Wisconsin at national contest in Louisville, Ky.

A team from Grant County took top honors in the senior division of the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest held July 26 at the Arlington Public Events Center. Team Members include: Kelli Retallick, Amanda Patterson, Brian Patterson and Shea Esser. They are coached by Dennis Patterson. These 4-H members will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, which will be held this fall in Louisville, Ky.

The second place senior team was Marathon County. Team members include: Ty and Calli Bayer, Jessica Radcliffe and LaShawna Wagner. They are coached by Scott Bayer.

Eight senior teams and nine junior teams participated in the state contest, which consisted of evaluating classes of market and breeding beef, market and breeding swine, and market and breeding sheep as well as answer questions and deliver reasons. These teams qualified for the state contest by being top teams at the district Area Animal Science Days that were held around the state in June.

Jessica Radcliffe of Marathon County was the top senior judge. Other seniors among the top ten are; Kelli Retallick, Grant; Shea Esser, Grant; Alexus Butler, Dodge; Ty Bayer, Marathon; Amanda Patterson, Grant; Collin Keel, Dodge; Brian Patterson, Grant; Amanda Ash, Manitowoc, and Justin Lillesand, Sheboygan.

The top reasons team was Marathon County. Team members include: Ty and Calli Bayer, Jessica Radcliffe, and LaShawna Wagner. The top five reasons individuals were: Kelli Retallick, Grant; Jessica Radcliffe, Marathon; Ty Bayer, Marathon; Calli Bayer, Marathon; and Shea Esser, Grant.

The top beef judges are from Marathon County; top sheep team was Dodge County and top swine team was Grant County.

Juniors recognized

The top junior team is from Iowa County. Team members are: Erica Thomas, Ross Siegenthaler, Reid Suddeth and coached by Jeff Thomas. The second place junior team was Dodge County. Team members include: Matthew Wiersma, Jesse Lynch, Samuel Nehls and Morgan Wollin. They are coached by Rebecca Doman.

The top ten junior individual judges are: Erica Thomas, Iowa; Clint Dallas, Shawano; Reid Suddeth, Iowa; Troy Gorr, Green; Matthew Wiersma, Dodge; Ross Siegenthaler, Iowa; Kim Beck, Sheboygan; Malorie Schmoll, Marathon; Raeanna Johnston, Polk, and Bailey Fritsch, Iowa.

The top sheep team was Marathon County; top swine team was Polk County; top beef team was Iowa County. The top reasons team was Iowa County.
