Gilbert Named State's Ginner of the Year

In 1987 Wayne joined Broadview Coop and became Gin Manager in 1995.

Wayne Gilbert, manager of Broadview Cooperative Gin was named the California Cotton Ginners Association's "2007 Ginner of the Year" during the organization's annual Industry Meeting recently held in Morro Bay. This year's recipient is a graduate of Chowchilla High School and has been around a cotton gin all his life. He grew up on a gin yard, and started working in and around a cotton gin at an early age, as his Dad was a ginner and a superintendent at the old Red Top Gin.

In 1987 Wayne joined Broadview Coop as their superintendent and then became the Gin Manager in 1995. Wayne is an active participant in the California Cotton Ginners Association and currently serves as the 1st Vice Chairman of the organization. He also serves or has served on the Association's Gin Waste Task Force, Environmental Committee, Elections Committee, Annual Meeting Committee, Ginners School Committee and the Executive Committee. Wayne is also an active participant in cotton ginning issues and is never shy to voice his opinions. Wayne has traveled to San Francisco to work on cotton gin issues with EPA at their Region IX headquarters, and has attended many other hearings and meetings on cotton's behalf.

Mr. Gilbert is also an accomplished singer. Last year he made it to the 2007 National Karaoke Talent Quest, placing 3rd in California. He has recorded three CD's at the South Wind Recording Studio and plays regularly to packed crowds at the Fresno VFW hall.

Wayne has been a true asset to the Association and its role as one of the leading Ag organizations in the State.
