Organic dairies in the Northeast face a critical shortage of organic feed. To help meet that need, Cornell University's Small Farms Program and the New York Farm Viability Institute have packaged useful information into an "Organic Crops for Organic Dairies," bundle. It's available at no charge on CD from New York Cooperative Extension offices or downloadable from the Web.

You can find it at the New York Organic Dairy Initiative Web site: www.organic.cornell.edu. Then click on "Organic Dairy".

The information complies some of the most up-to-date resources on growing organic field crops, reports Fay Benson, Cornell Extension educator. "Many people are interested in the technical info.

"But the most useful tools to ensure a successful, sustainable business are the spreadsheets," he adds. "They allow an individual farm to input its own information and accurately evaluate changes and practices."
