Ford County Approves Adding Fans to 3i Show Arena

Six 24-foot commercial fans will help keep air moving and show more comfortable for exhibitors and attendees.

If you attended last year's first 3i Show in the new venue at the Western State Bank Expo Center in Dodge City, you may remember that the huge indoor showroom was challenged for air flow once all the booths were assembled and the displays put in place.

Something is being done about that in time for this year's show, which opens July 11 and runs through July 13. Ford County commissioners have approved the installation of six 24-foot Powerfoil X2.0 Plus Big Ass Fans in the Expo Center.

The giant arena offers 90,000 square feet of exhibit space on concrete floor, with additional space for animal and equipment exhibits on dirt floors. It is cooled by evaporate coolers, which maintain a comfortable ambient temperature.

County officials believe that the giant commercial fans will keep the building more comfortable for attendees and exhibitors during the 3i Show and other large events.

However, exhibitors learned last year that the walls of booths restrict the movement of the air and in the July heat of the 3i Show and the building full of exhibits, the space becomes stuffy by mid-afternoon.

No more need for portable floor fans

Exhibitors last year brought portable floor fans to help keep their own booths more comfortable, but county officials believe that the giant commercial fans will keep the building more comfortable for attendees and exhibitors during the 3i Show and other large events.

Big Ass Fans is the preeminent designer and manufacturer of high-volume, low-speed ceiling and vertical fans ranging up to 24 feet in diameter, each engineered to provide significant energy savings and improve occupant comfort year-round.   After an extensive study, Ford County officials determined that a combination of these two systems will be the very best for the WSBEC building.

Technicians from Big Ass Fans as well as the evaporative cooler manufacturer are outlining specific protocols for the successful operation of both of these systems.
