Mahindra USA, Inc. last week announced the winners of its new scholarship program benefiting women in agriculture, "Mahindra Tractors Women in Ag Scholarships."
From hundreds of applications, these 10 outstanding women were selected to receive merit-based college scholarships from Mahindra USA for use during the 2007-08 school year.
- Erica Der, Plant City, Fla., is a junior at University of Florida majoring in agricultural communications.
- Courtney Bulldis, McKinney, Texas, is a freshman at Stephen F. Austin State University majoring in honors environmental agricultural engineering with a minor in agricultural development.
- Sarah Caldwell, Beaver Falls, Pa., is a freshman at Pennsylvania State University majoring in agribusiness management.
- Stacey Dickman, Ottawa, Ohio, is a freshman at Ohio State University majoring in animal science (pre-veterinarian).
- Monica Galli, Chico, Calif., is a senior at California State University majoring in agriculture business and plant science.
- Danielle Spring Groteguth, Elk Creek, Calif., is a freshman at California State University majoring in animal science.
- Taylor Hansard, Shafter, Calif., is a freshman at California Polytechnic majoring in agribusiness.
- Allie Massa, Lamar, Mo., is a sophomore at Missouri State University majoring in agriculture education with a minor in animal science
- Eron Smith, Ozark, Ark., is a sophomore at Arkansas Tech University majoring in agribusiness/animal science.
- Paula Smithheisler, Tonkawa, Okla., is a freshman at Oklahoma State University majoring in agricultural economics with a minor in animal science.
Scholarship winners were chosen based on their passion for agriculture as a career as well as their academic performance and leadership.
"It is often overlooked that women are a major and growing force in American agriculture at all levels," Mahindra USA president Anirban Ghosh says. "Our primary objective in supporting these educational opportunities is to help American women sustain family farm values and the rural lifestyle, and to cultivate their dreams through a career in Agriculture.
