Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, announced that Congress will seek an extension of the 2002 farm bill, which expires on Sept. 30. The extension sought will be for one month and there may be additional extensions reaching into December.
Harkin's plan to mark up the bill in committee next week looks to be rescheduled. Harkin told reporters the committee would consider amendments to the bill prior to the Senate's Columbus Day recess the week of Oct. 8.
