The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct two educational events in Runnels and Tom Green counties slated in the coming weeks, says Rick Minzenmayer, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service entomologist serving both counties.
Both field days start at 9 a.m.
The 2012 Runnels County Turn-row meeting is set for Sept. 20 at the Bill Belew Variety Trial, located on County Road 308 just southeast of Wingate, Texas.
Meanwhile, the 2012 Tom Green County Cotton Filed Tour is slated for Oct. 4 on the John and Doug Wilde farm, located east of San Angelo just north of the intersection of Loop 306 and Farm-to-Market Road 765.
FIELD DAYS ARE NEAR. The 2012 Runnels County Turn-row Meeting is Sept. 20 and the 2012 Tom Green County Cotton Field Day is Oct. 4. Both will be conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
"We will discuss both cotton and wheat varieties at the Runnels County event and top it off with a complimentary lunch served at the Wingate Lions Club Building that will conclude the meeting," Minzenmayer says.
The Runnels County speakers will include Minzenmayer, Randal Schwartz of the Texas Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation, San Angelo; Dr. David Drake, Texas AgriLife Extension agronomist at San Angelo; and representatives from crop insurance, chemical and seed companies.
Minzenmayer says the October Tom Green County tour stops will include an irrigated cotton variety test and a look at harvest-aid demonstration work. The tour will end at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall for a complimentary meal and the day's final speakers.
Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units in the general category will be offered at the Runnels County program. Three units—two general, and one in laws a regulations—will be obtainable at the Tom Green tour.
