More than 30 readers sent us a photo or two or three of their favorite farm dogs – proving once again every dog has its day and every farm has its dogs. From the photos these dogs have a pretty nice life down on the farm.
More than one entrant noted that their dog was "The best farm dog we've ever had." As you can see from the photo in our slide show, the feeling must be mutual. These are indeed some lucky dogs to have the owners they have.

WATCHFUL EYE:
He may not be a saint, but Nick always keeps a watchful eye on our grandsons, says David Schlauch from Big Prairie.

FIRST PLACE:
"What kind of dog are you?" asks Gus owned by Rachel Niekamp from New Weston. On a warm spring morning Rachel turned out some of the family's piglets for a romp in the sun.

SECOND PLACE:
This is Duke, a Greater Swiss Mountain dog, who loves the cold and snow. He's owned by Bob & Ellie Phillips from West Alexandria.

THIRD PLACE:
With a wet fall in Port Clinton Don Jess says he needed all the harvest help he could get. And his dog Gunner was happy to lend a hand or a paw.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Freddie is a stray that showed up at Bob and Ellie Phillips' farm as a puppy. After a busy day he needs a rest.

HONORABLE MENTION:
This is Misty who helps out with the farm chores at Nate and Trish Andre's place near Wauseon and then enjoys a rest on some fresh hay.

HUNTIN' DOG:
Biscuit loves to watch for "bunnies" as she rides in the combine with Keith Middleton. At the end of the row she might jump out to chase one, but she's not very good a catching them, he says.

CENTURY FARM:
Pearle Burlington took the family portrait of Lenny, who is an eleven year old Australian Blue Heeler owned by Raymond & Nelda Anderson & their son Wayne.

LOYAL COMPANION:
Fritz is a loyal companion who helps guard the barn for Corrine Baker Lewis of Navarre.

FRITZ'S FRIEND:
Corrine also sent a photo of Molly, who like Fritz loves to help the Lewises out. Both would be readers of the Ohio Farmer, Corrine says, if they could read.

COZY PUP:
Heidi has dug herself a hole under an oak tree and is ready for nap at Michael Sollars farm near Washington Court House.

SUN DAWG:
Pam Mallory took this photo of Don Gleim's dog catching a few rays on the hay wagon in Scioto County.

GREAT GUARD:
The Tudor's Great Pyrenees Nuge towers over their boys Wyatt and Evan. He was named for Ted Nugent - The Great White Hunter.

FREE RIDE:
Mamie Hollenback sent this photo of Elsie patiently waiting on the family's UTV for a ride back to the cow barn.

BRIGHT LIGHTS:
Here's our second place winner Duke again showing that he has what it takes to be a celebrity.

TAIL WAGGERS:
Charles Miley from Delaware keeps a bucket of dog treats in a cat litter bucket in the back of the truck so his 2-year-old granddaughter, Lauren, can feed the family's dogs from the safety of the tailgate.

BOTTLE FEEDING:
Your never too young to learn about milking chores at Doug and Melanie Moore's farm.

MISTY'S PAL:
The Andre's also entered this photo of their other dog Jess. Their daughter used the photo to draw a 4-H winning sketch.

PROTECTOR:
Margie came to the Mizicko farm from the Animal Protective League and she loves her new home so much she won't let anyone near it including the deer that like to eat the corn and apples in their yard.

HELPING MOUTH:
Makaihla loves to carry firewood for Carol Clemons in Willard.

GATOR GUY:
Samson, a white German Shepherd, loves to ride on Nan and Ken Reiff's JD Gator. They say he is the best farm dog they've ever had.

READING TUTOR:
Remi, a collie, is helping out with homework at Doug and Melanie Moore's farm.

WATER LOVERS:
Phyllis Harner took this photo of her granddaughter Paige Pence in a cool pool with her dog Chester.

EASY RIDERS:
This is what Lilly, left, and Annie consider hard work at the Marty farm in Sterling.

DOG LOVERS:
Dogs tend to gravitate to L&M Farms near Fremont. Lynn and Jeffry Martin share the place with Dusty and Buddy as well as Spot and German shepherd. All of them except Dusty came to the farm on their own.

MOLE HUNTER:
Lily is a 10-year-old Jack Russell-beagle cross who loves to hunt. She is especially good at exterminating moles for Barbara Edington in Frankfort.

LET'S GO:
Chad and Dewey fight for "shotgun" position when it's time to go to the elevator at Wayne and Verne Bellinger Farms in Elida.

SHADEY CHARACTER:
Scarlet takes a break from her gardening at the Truxall family home near Minerva.
