EPA Extends Insect-Protected Cotton Registration

Monsanto insect-protected cotton technology receives non-expiring registration.

Published on: Oct 2, 2006

The Environmental Protection Agency has granted Bollgard II insect-protected cotton a non-expiring registration.

Bollgard II is the second generation of insect protected cotton developed by Monsanto, providing two different insect-control genes and improved efficiency against worm pests. The new cotton produces proteins to control cotton bollworm and tobacco budworm.

For 2007, Monsanto will make available an expanded number of cottonseed varieties with Bollgard II and Roundup Ready Flex cotton traits. Bollgard II cotton varieties have been on the market since 2003. The registration extension requires the continuation of important stewardship practices, including a comprehensive insect resistance management program.
