Kewaunee County family milk 2,900 cows near Algoma

Ebert Enterprises of Algoma has been selected to host the 2017 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in Kewaunee County.

Owned by the Randy and Renee Ebert family, Ebert Enterprises has grown to a 2,900-cow dairy farm, cropping nearly 6,000 acres of corn, alfalfa, sorghum, triticale and small grains. They also raise 3,100 youngstock on their family farm.

 Randy, a sixth generation farmer, along with wife Renee began their farming journey together in 1987. Purchasing the farm from Randy's parents, Henry and Carol, they entered the dairy industry as custom heifer growers.

 In 1997, a milking facility was built and they transitioned into becoming a dairy operation. With their commitment to Kewaunee County and passion for agriculture they have steadily continued to grow. Today, the farm has 40 full-time and 15 part-time employees.

"We are honored to be the 2017 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days. Agriculture plays an important role in Kewaunee County and we are looking forward to showcasing all areas that are provided here, including dairy, beef, grain, vineyards, fruits and vegetables and local foods," shares Randy Ebert, adding that the opportunity to educate others about agriculture and all that it has to offer. This will be the first time Kewaunee County has hosted the show.

"Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, I think Kewaunee County is one of Wisconsin's best kept secrets with all that it has to offer. Ebert Enterprises with the Kewaunee County FTD Executive Committee has already begun to discuss their plans for the event," said Wisconsin Farm Technology Days General Manager Matt Glewen.

"This event will draw people together, develop new friendships and invoke leadership development with many positive effects on our community on many different levels," according to Aerica Bjurstrom, Agriculture Agent who will serve as Executive Secretary for the 2017 Kewaunee County Farm Technology Days. She says, "The show will not only showcase the area's progressive and diverse farming industry, but also highlight new technologies that can help agriculture grow and prosper while protecting its environmental resources."
The show is scheduled for July 11-13, 2017. The 2015 show will be held in Dane County Aug. 25-27 at the Statz Brothers Farm near Sun Prairie. The 2016 show will be held in Walworth County.
