Dairy-Forage Day Set for Dec 10

Speakers will discuss 'cutting edge' information.

The 2010 Dairy Forage Day and Fond du Lac County Forage Council Annual Meeting will offer forage producers and agricultural professionals "cutting edge" information related to forage production and utilization. It will be held Friday, December 10th at UW-Fond du Lac in Room 114 University Center from 11:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The morning program will begin with Mike Rankin, Crops and Soils Agent, who will update participants on information gathered during the past four years in the Wisconsin Alfalfa Yield and Persistence Program. Next, Gary Nowaczyk, Alfalfa and Corn Silage Manager with Winfield Solutions/Croplan Genetics, will address questions related to the availability of Roundup Ready Alfalfa in 2011 and discuss new alfalfa traits that are currently being developed.

Following lunch, the focus of the program will shift to forage feeding. Dr. John Goeser, Dairy Specialist with Vita Plus, will present information from a recently completely stored silage management study.  To conclude the day, Paul Dyk, Dairy and Livestock Agent, will discuss information learned in a series of feeder training programs.

The Fond du Lac County Forage Council is sponsoring the event.
