The annual Cows on the Concourse is coming to the Capitol Square on Saturday, June 1. This free annual event kicks off June Dairy Month in Dane County.

The event will take place just off downtown Madison's Capitol Square on Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Only Cows on the Concourse gives kids and adults the unique opportunity to get close to cows and baby calves, enjoy hot grilled cheese sandwiches, sip ice-cold milk and visit with Wisconsin dairy farmers.

Cows On The Concourse: A 'Moooving' Experience

The main attraction of the event is the Cow Zone, where attendees can get up-close with a herd of cows and calves of several breeds. Wisconsin dairy farmers and other "Moo Experts" will join the cows and calves and answer visitors' questions.  Attendees can also swing by the "Ask a Farmer Zone" where local dairy farmers will be on-hand for one-on-one chats about Wisconsin dairy farming. 

Again this year, Cows on the Concourse visitors can hop aboard a free trolley from 10 a.m. to noon to visit "Saturday Science" at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. Located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, "Saturday Science" gives attendees the chance to learn about the science of cheese, milk, and everything Wisconsin. The free trolley will also return visitors to the Capitol Square.

The "Get MOOving and Fit Zone" provides all kinds of athletic stations for kids while they learn about the role dairy products play in a healthy lifestyle. The "Ed'Moo'cation Zone" will feature hands-on activities for younger kids to learn about Wisconsin dairy farms.

There will be plenty for food fans too. Tasty options include melt-in-your-mouth grilled cheese sandwiches at the "Big Cheese Zone" and ice-cold milk in several different flavors.
