Comment Period Reopened

USDA is taking further comments on proposed lease rule.

Published on: Dec 19, 2007

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reopened the comment period on a proposal to standardize lease agreements with variable or flexible provisions. The comment period ended Nov. 27, 2007, but because of public requests, USDA will now accept comments through Jan. 17, 2008. The extension was published in the Federal Register on Tuesday.

What is under consideration is if revisions or new definitions are needed for the regulations that determine whether a lease is considered "cash-rent" or "share-rent" for USDA programs. The Farm Service Agency and Risk Management Agency will review comments on the current laws concerning lease agreements before taking action.

Public comments can be mailed to Director, Production, Emergencies and Compliance Division, FSA, USDA, Stop 0517, 1400 Independence Ave. SW, Washington, D.C 20250-0517. Comments can also be submitted online by clicking HERE.
