Coalition Opposes Proposition B

Missouri agricultural and pet owners groups encourage voters to vote 'no' on HSUS-pushed ballot initiative.

Members of Missourians for Animal Care have voted unanimously to oppose the Humane Society of the United States and the proposition the Washington, D.C.,-based group is pushing in Missouri.

The initiative, titled Proposition B and slated to appear on the November ballot, targets family owned professional kennels already inspected and licensed by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. If passed, the proposition will bankrupt legal, licensed breeders who comply with existing state and federal laws.

"HSUS is a multi-million-dollar fundraising organization that runs such misleading campaigns under the false guise of cute puppies and kittens," says Don Nikodim, chairman of Missourians for Animal Care. "They have no connection to our local shelters and unfortunately have no interest in solutions. In their own words, the ultimate goal of HSUS is to end animal agriculture. Bottom line -- Washington D.C. factory fundraisers shouldn't be telling Missourians how to run our businesses."

Missouri currently has stringent laws, regulations and reporting systems in place to prevent animal abuse. Proposition B adds to that litany of regulations, but does nothing to provide resources for enforcement.

Missourians for Animal Care is a coalition of mainstream agriculture and animal owner groups in the state. Formed to address the tactics of anti-ag activists, the group is working to shine a light on the deceptive practices and aims of HSUS, and to inform Missouri voters to vote no on Proposition B on Nov. 2.
