The U.S.-based Grocery Manufacturers Association and Chinese National Food Industry group signed a memorandum of understanding focused on ensuring food safety on Wednesday in Beijing.

The MOU specified that the groups would support "government-industry exchanges and dialogue" on food safety, trade facilitation, and other common interests, and would seek opportunities to collaborate regionally and globally on food safety issues.

Pamela Bailey, president and CEO of the Grocery Manufacturers Association, said the MOU and partnerships are more critical to enhancing food safety as the food supply becomes more global and complex.

"We all share the common goal of building safer food systems, and we welcome this close coordination with CNFIA and other partners to achieve that goal," she commented.

CNFIA President Shi Xiushi recognized the MOU as "a new start for the two associations to further strengthen cooperation, promote the development of our food industries, and contribute to food safety."
