Cattle theft continues to be a common enemy in the Southwest, including Oklahoma. That's especially true with the high price of beef cattle today.
The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association will host a ranch gathering Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Duncan, Okla. The ranch meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with registration at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan. Following registration, a complimentary beef dinner will be served to attendees.
Paul Cornett, TSCRA special ranger, will speak. Cornett will discuss theft cases that have occurred in the area. He will go over the ways that ranchers can protect their cattle and other ranch assets against thieves.
"TSCRA ranch gatherings are a great place for folks to get together and discuss what's going on in the cattle business, and how they can get involved," says Joe Parker Jr., a Byers, Texas rancher and president of TSCRA. "These gatherings aren't just for TSCRA members. Anyone interested in the cattle industry is invited to attend."
The free event is open to public, and the media also is invited to attend the Ranch Gathering as well.
New TSCRA members who sign up at the event will receive a free metal gate sign.
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is located at 1000 Chisholm Train Parkway in Duncan.
The Ranch Gathering is sponsored by DuPont Range & Pasture, First National Bank, National Livestock Credit Corp., Oklahoma National Stockyards, Stillwater Milling Co., and Waurika Livestock Commission.
