Capper To Discuss Sustainability In The Beef Industry

Jude Capper lecture tomorrow evening in Manhattan will address sustainability in the beef industry.

The Food for Thought student organization at Kansas State University is hosting Jude Capper, Ph.D., who is presenting, "Is Your Hamburger Killing the Planet?" November 19 at 7 p.m. The lecture, a part of the Upson Lecture Series, addresses sustainability in the beef industry. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be in Forum Hall, located in the K-State Student Union near the intersection of 17th Street and Anderson Avenue in Manhattan, and will be streamed live online.

Disproving myths surrounding livestock production

Capper, an independent sustainability consultant, will share a message centered on sustainability and how agriculture will feed the world in 2050. Disproving myths related to the environmental impact of livestock production is part of her current work. Recently, Capper served as task force chair for a Council for Agricultural Science and Technology publication: Animal Feed vs. Human Food: Challenges and Opportunities in Sustaining Animal Agriculture Toward 2050.

Serving in professor and affiliate positions at both Washington State University and Montana State University, Capper spends a significant amount of time sharing her knowledge with stakeholders, including producer groups, retailers, policy-makers and consumers.
