Longtime skid-loader manufacturer Bobcat announced recently it was entering the compact tractor boom and would unveil its products at a January meeting in Las Vegas.

This CT230 (30 horsepower) Bobcat compact tractor represents the first public glimpse of the long-time skid loader’s foray into compact utility tractors. Bobcat is set to introduce a Daedong-built line of tractors from 20 to 50 hp in January 2008.

We found this 30 hp. example of what Bobcat has in mind during a recent vist to the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie, Georgia, where the company had nestled it amidst an array of skid loaders and attachments. Bobcat officials said the expected line of new tractors will range from 20- to 50 hp. and all will feature hydrostatic transmissions – following the hydraulic/hydrostatic designs of its skid loaders. The new Bobcats will be built by North Korea’s Daedong to Bobcat’s specifications. Bobcat attachments will remain of U.S. design and manufacturer.

In addition to the front-and-back hydrostatic foot rocker, the new CT230 offers automotive-like instruments in addition to contemporary farm-tractor-like brakes.

Officials we talked with said the new Bobcats will be sold with many features standard that are extra-cost options on competing tractors.
