Beef Checkoff Could Increase

Committee recommends increasing assessment.

An administrative subcommittee of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board is recommending an increase in the beef checkoff assessment from $1 to $2. The subcommittee opened the door to raising the beef checkoff assessment to three dollars, down the road. But, subcommittee chair Tom Jones from Arkansas, says there is no intention at all and no thought at all that the beef checkoff should go to $3.

Additional proposals would establish regional beef councils, lengthen the appointments of CBB officers, expand contracting authority, make the checkoff more inclusive, improve enforcement capabilities and establish a checkoff exemption for animals that sell for less than $50.
