Argentine government officials suspended talks about the wheat sector with farm group leaders Tuesday. Farmers rejected the proposed agenda and the already tense negotiations were called off. Negotiations between farmers and the government have been ongoing since a 30-day truce was established on April 1, which ended three weeks of farm strikes.
If talks fail, farmers plan to resume the strike on May 1. The strike was initiated by a tax hike on soybean exports that the government is unwilling to change.
