Topcon Positioning Systems has announced its remote asset management solution Topcon Tierra has been chosen by Agco Corporation as its sole global advanced telematics supplier. Agco will market the technology under the Agconnect brand name.

The multi-year agreement covers all Agco equipment lines and is an expansion of a strategic partnership between the two firms to provide machine control, machine management and precision farming technology products and services to the global ag machinery market.

Tierra is a Web portal through which all Agconnect information will flow. According to a press statement, the system is easy to learn and is a reliable format. The system allows information to flow from machine to office and from office to machine over the Web. The system, first rolled out in the construction market, will move into agriculture through the Agco-TPS partnership.

The Tierra system can carry information from the machinery back to a central data storage area using a variety of electronic systems. This level of fleet management systems is gaining popularity as farmers work with distributed equipment across a wider area.
