Agco Offers DEF Source

New-tech engines need diesel exhaust fluid, and it's now available through the local dealer.

Newer, low-emission, diesel engines rely on diesel exhaust fluid for selective catalytic reduction. One concern as the engines came to market was getting access to the product. Agco is now offering Agco Diesel Exhaust Fluid through Agco Parts dealers across North America.

DEF is made of synthetic urea and deionized water sprayed into the exhaust stream of diesel vehicles to cause a chemical reaction and break down NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. Agco Genuine DEF is certified by the American Petroleum Institute to meet ISO 22241 quality compliance standards.

Agco, and other manufacturers, using SCR require than ISO-standard DEF be used in those systems to avoid damage. The company notes that the urea used to make Agco's API-certified DEF is industrial in nature and contains no contaminants. Even trace levels of contaminants can take a batch of DEF out of specification, which can impact the effectiveness of the SCR system and result in costly repairs. Replacement of a vehicle's SCR system can cost - on average - more than $10,000, according to Agco.
