Following are highlights from the 2013 Wisconsin State Fair:

The Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation and the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board are pleased to announce the results of the 45th Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction at the 2013 Wisconsin State Fair.

The Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation wants to take this opportunity to thank all of the corporate and individual buyers who continue to support Wisconsin Youth and have made the 2013 Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction a tremendous success.

Gov. Scott Walker and DATCP Secretary, Ben Brancel, joined the stars of the evening, the youth exhibitors and their Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and Breed Champion  livestock. The spotlight was on the champions and the youth exhibitors as the 45th Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction kicked off at 6:30 p.m. in the Case IH Coliseum.

Bidding commenced with the Grand Champion Steer (Crossbred) exhibited by Dan Spoerlein, age 19, of Salem, Wis. in Kenosha County. The 1,334 pound steer sold for $30,000 with the winning bid from Kenosha Beef International / Birchwood Foods.  

  In total, 26 Junior Market Steers, Barrows and Lambs and  4 Wisconsin Sports Packages were sold. The 2013 Governor's Auction raised a total of $239,750 – topping the 2012 Auction by $18,850.

•Reserve Grand Champion Barrow (Crossbred): exhibited by Allison Luety of Rock County; Winning Bid of $18,000 by The DeLong Co., Inc. and donated to the BRSCF Scholarship Fund

•Reserve Grand Champion Lamb (Crossbred): exhibited by Calvin Reilly of Lafayette County; Winning Bid of $11,000 by Beer Capitol Distributing and donated to the Wisconsin State Fair Park Foundation

2013 Wisconsin State Fair Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation Scholarship
The winners of the 2013 Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction Scholarships have been announced.   The Foundation awarded four $1000 scholarships, four $750 scholarships and five $500 scholarships. Governor Scott Walker presented the scholarship recipients with a certificate of recognition during the Governor's Auction at the Wisconsin State Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Kallie Jo Kastenson, Union Grove, Emily Petzel, Centuria, Lydia Russell, Brooklyn, and Cole Tidemann, Rosendale are the $1,000 scholarship recipients. The $750 scholarship winners are Briana Katzenberger, Monroe, Courtney Lobdell, Darlington, Travis Senn, Campbellsport, and Mikalya Wehrle, New London. The $500 awards went to Suzanne Henning, Janesville, Maisie Langholff, Wisconsin Rapids, Morgan Pittz, Mineral Point, Sheila Tesarik, Whitelaw and Kurt Weisensel, Edgerton.

 Given on an annual basis, the recipients are recognized for their leadership skills, academic achievements, accomplishments as Wisconsin State Fair Junior Livestock exhibitors and potential as future contributors to the livestock industry. The awards are used to assist them with their educational expenses.

 The Blue Ribbon Sale of Champions Foundation manages the Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction to provide a platform for enhancing and strengthening the agriculture community of Wisconsin, and to foster better understanding of the agriculture industry throughout our society.

Junior Exhibitors Recognized at Dairyland Youth Celebration
The Dairyland Youth Celebration, held last weekend at Wisconsin State Fair Park, celebrated the accomplishments of the more than 600 exhibitors who participated in the junior dairy and junior dairy goat shows at the 2013 Wisconsin State Fair.

The Supreme Champion of the Wisconsin State Fair Junior Dairy Show was the Grand Champion Red & White Holstein – Critter-Ridge Reba-Red-ET – exhibited by Jordan Siemers of Manitowoc County. Reba topped 880 entries in the show, which is the largest and most competitive junior dairy show in the world. Siemers received a $1,000 cash prize made possible through the generous support of Dairyland Youth Celebration sponsors.

The Reserve Supreme Champion of the Wisconsin State Fair Junior Dairy Show was the Grand Champion Holstein – Jeffrey-Way Advent Dynasty – exhibited by Patrick Blair of Green County. Blair received a $1,000 cash prize made possible through the generous support of Dairyland Youth Celebration sponsors.

The Supreme Champion Showperson of the Wisconsin State Fair Junior Dairy Show was 18-year-old Ranae Holthaus of LaCrosse County. Holthaus competed against more than 600 exhibitors to earn this coveted title. Holthaus received a $1,000 cash prize possible through the generous support of Dairyland Youth Celebration sponsors.

The Best Doe in the Show, representing the Wisconsin Junior Dairy Goat Show, was exhibited by Bradley Fenner of Dodge County, while the Supreme Champion Showperson of the Junior Dairy Goat Show was 17-year-old Hannah Shilts of Rock County. Each received a $1,000 cash prize made possible through the generous support of Dairyland Youth Celebration sponsors.
