Chairpersons for the 16th Badger Invitational Sale are busy putting finishing touches on preparations for the sale which will be held Saturday, March 9 in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Stock Pavillion.
Presale viewing of the cattle begins at 9 a.m. on the morning of the sale.
According to Jacob Brey, sale general chairperson, there is something new this year.
"We're hosting this year's sale in conjunction with the open house at the Dairy Cattle Center on campus," says Brey. "It's going to be pretty easy for anyone coming to the sale to walk a few hundred feet from the Stock Pavillion to the DCC. Both barns are very close."
Visitors can tour the DCC which just completed an eight-month,$3.5 million renovation.
"They can enjoy some refreshments and see the DCC and then come over here and check out the cattle before the sale begins at noon," Brey says.
A total of 70 lots have been cataloged for the sale including registered Holstein calves, yearlings, bred heifers and choices.
"We also have a few Red and White Holsteins selling, several red carriers, some polled heifers as well as many show-age calves and heifers," Brey explains.
The sale is being managed by the Badger Dairy Club with assistance from Tom Morris Ltd.
"This is a bi-annual sale. We only have it every other spring," Brey notes.
