PCG updates Seed Cost Calculator for 2010
The Plains Cotton Growers’ Seed Cost Calculator has been updated for 2010 and is available from the PCG Web site at www.plainscotton.org/Seed/
Roger Haldenby, vice president of operations, PCG, Lubbock, Texas, says pricing for 109 cotton varieties has been incorporated into the new calculator from 10 seed labels. These include AFD, All-Tex, Americot, Croplan, D&PL, Dyna-Gro, FiberMax, NexGen, PhytoGen and Stoneville.
Haldenby says the PCG seed cost calculator is an interactive Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that allows producers to calculate an estimated cost-per-acre for both seed and technology, based on published suggested retail prices.
He adds that if you don’t have Microsoft Excel, and don’t want to spend the money to buy the program, you can find links to download the free Open Office program at www.openoffice.org/index.html.
Haldenby says Open Office is a free, downloadable, open source of software that includes CALC, which he says is a spreadsheet program that can open Excel spreadsheets and workbooks.
