Josh hails from Rolla, Mo., about 100 miles southwest of St. Louis.

After graduating from Truman State University (Kirksville, Mo.) with a degree in communication: journalism, he took a job with the Suburban Journals group. Josh began his career covering Belleville, Ill. While at the Journals, he also covered O'Fallon and Fairview Heights, Ill.

In 2006, Josh took a job with Country Journal Publishing in Decatur, Ill., where he acted as the editor of Milling Journal and associate editor of Grain Journal. His writing focused primarily on grain processing and storage.

Josh and his wife, Tiffany, have been married since 2005.

"My father is a self-employed mechanic," Josh says. "Growing up, I learned very quickly what it meant to live by the sweat of your brow. I have a tremendous respect for the 'self-made man.' As associate editor of Prairie Farmer, I hope to continue the publication's tradition of providing Illinois farmers with up-to-date, helpful information."

Holly Spangler has covered Illinois agriculture for the past 13 years, beginning her career with Prairie Farmer even before graduating from college. As associate editor, she brings real-world production agriculture experience to the topics she covers, including a range of production, management and issue-oriented stories. As a farmwife herself, she also offers up a young farmer's take on the issues of the day through her monthly column, My Generation, and her blog at

Holly and her husband, John, farm in western Illinois where they raise corn, soybeans and cattle on 2,000 acres. Their operation includes 100 head of commercial cows in a cow/calf operation, plus several Shorthorns for the local show calf market. The family operation includes John’s parents, and their three children, Jenna, Nathan and Caroline.

An award-winning writer and photographer, Holly is a member of the American Agricultural Editors Association and was named a Master Writer in 2005. She graduated in 1998 from the University of Illinois in agricultural communications, and received the Warren K. Wessels Award for outstanding senior in the College of ACES. Immediately following graduation, she was a founding member of the U of I Ag Communications Alumni Leadership Council, and the College of ACES recently named her a 2011 Outstanding Young Alumni. She currently serves on the AAEA Board of Directors, and was one of 10 recipients worldwide to receive the 2011 IFAJ-Alltech Young Leaders in Ag Journalism award.

Holly is also active in the Illinois Farm Families program as an official Farm Mom, and shares the story of agriculture and farm life with a variety of groups and organizations, both within and outside of agriculture.

Holly and her husband are active in state and local farm organizations, receiving the Illinois Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer Achievement Award in 2007. As members of their local community church, she and her husband serve in youth and music ministries.
