Mindy grew up on a small livestock farm that consisted of a few steers, four sows, and too many sheep for seven acres. However, it was a love for animals that led her to pursue a career in agriculture.

After graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's degree in agricultural journalism, she worked briefly at a public relations firm in Kansas City. Her husband's career led the couple north to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

Mindy says Minnesota's agriculture landscape was vastly different, but provided a great learning ground. There she reported on large-scale production of corn, soybeans, sugar beets, peas and sweet corn. She also covered dairy and biofuels for The Land, a monthly agriculture publication in the state. After 10 years, the couple returned to Missouri.

She admits it took some time to remember her beef cow/calf lingo. "For the most part, in the north, there was not the crops and cattle approach to farming like Missouri," she says. "There were cows in my coverage area, they were just dairy cows."

As editor of Missouri Ruralist, Mindy believes it is important that farmers and ranchers have up-to-date information to help them make the best decisions for their farm. "The agriculture industry is constantly changing, moving forward," she adds. "I want our readers to look at the magazine and see information that proves useful when making the tough choices that impact their livelihood."

Her experience includes writing for ag publications like BEEF Magazine, Living the Country Life and Missouri Farmer Today. She joined Farm Progress in February 2012.

Mindy and her husband, Stacy, live just north of Marthasville near the small town of Holstein. Together, with their daughters, Elisa and Cassidy, the family operates Showtime Farms. They spend a great deal of time caring for and showing Dorset, Oxford and crossbred sheep.
