    Farmers Finish Up Planting

    What a difference a year makes. This time last year, I could sit in the shade and sweat. Temperatures hovered around 106 degrees F, and reached into the triple digits for six days straight. Corn was drying up for excessive heat and lack of moisture. Today temperatures are at least 20 degrees cooler with highs in the lower 80s.     As I leaned down to take a photo of a soybean plant submerged in water, all I could think of was the animated Disney movie Finding Nemo. Then I began to sing the angelfish Dora's famous line---"just keep swimming, just keep swimming." While soybeans are resilient, the reality is that there are feet upon feet of water burying some of these plants and the likelihood of recovery is getting slimmer with each passing rain shower.     I found myself passing the time at the airport with a new smartphone app "What's the Word?" by Redspell. As a journalist, I am a lover of words. As a photographer, I am a lover of pictures. Put the two together and it is an ideal game for individuals like me. As with most of my apps, my daughter turned me onto the game.
