Venturing into the Farm Blog World

Weekly blog offers me a new opportunity to connect with farmer-readers

Published on: September 21, 2012

To blog or not to blog – that really wasn’t the question. At our company meeting last May, our editorial director told Farm Progress editors if we weren’t already blogging, we would be by the end of the year. He told us blogs need to be 300 words or more and must be done weekly.

Those are pretty much the parameters of the blog. The decision of when to start writing a blog and the topic choice each week is up to the editor.

Since I’m new to the world of blogging, I chose to wait until summer was over and the October issue of my magazine was out the door to the printer to put my toe in the water and start blogging. So here I am writing my first blog!

At 53 years old, I have to admit I’m not the most tech-savvy person. But …

The two things I’m looking forward to about writing a blog each week is getting another opportunity to interact with readers and a chance to discuss breaking news. That’s a little easier to do in a weekly blog compared to my monthly column in the Wisconsin Agriculturist magazine. Some weeks I may write about an upcoming meeting or event. Other weeks I may write about something that is bothering me or something that bothers you! I hope you will provide feedback to my blogs. Feel free to send me some ideas of topics you would like me to discuss or events or meetings you want me to promote. I don’t want to turn this space into a calendar, but if there’s an important meeting or event coming up that you think other readers would benefit from hearing about or attending, let me know. My goal is to educate, inform and entertain readers with news and information about Wisconsin agriculture.
