As a member of the ag media, I receive quite a few promotional items from various equipment manufacturers, seed companies, etc. From pens to flash drives, a lot of thought goes into these promotional materials.
This week, at the Ag Media Summit in Fort Worth, Texas, Ag Leader Technology grabbed my attention in a big way. Before I launch into this story, let me give you a little background.
Two weeks ago, I fell during my daily jog and broke my fibula, in the ankle area. Thus, I'm currently on crutches, with my right leg in medical boot that prevents my foot from flexing. To say the least, crutching around the conference was a bit of a challenge.
Now, back to Ag Leader's promotion. On Monday, Aug. 3, I returned to my room after a late dinner with some colleagues. I hobbled into my hotel room and my heart suddenly stopped. There, on the bed, was a shiny steel briefcase. I knew the briefcase wasn't mine, so I immediately thought there must be someone in the room.
Using a crutch as a weapon, I slowly checked the room, looking for the intruder. Not finding anyone, I approached the briefcase. I instantly felt stupid when I saw my name on the briefcase, with Ag Leader emblazoned on the outside.
The briefcase was locked. However, there was a note urging me to stop by the Ag Leader booth at the expo to get the combination and "crack the code." Inside the briefcase, the promotional materials have a Mission Impossible theme, with a note about an upcoming demo event in December.
I got quite a chuckle when I thought about the Mission Impossible experience I'd created for myself at the hotel.
