It's Looking Like a Rainy Day in Washington

With a warm day in store, we're hoping for showers, not downpours

OK, so I back in Washington and this time I could not resist the urge to reward my daughter for college graduation by bringing her family along.

It's my grandkids' first trip and while Jax, who is only two, probably won't remember much except maybe the airplane ride which he thought was pretty cool, but Chloe and Alyssa, who are 9 and 7, are beyond excited. Their first choice of a place to see -- the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.

And, Alyssa says she'd like to see Michelle Obama. And if not Michelle, then surely the girls and if not them, well, we WILL get to see the dog, won't we?

Um, probably not, sweetie, I told her. Not many people actually get to see the first family. You have to be important and powerful, I told her.

I thought she'd forgotten about it. Then hours later, she said, quite seriously, "Well, grandma, when YOU see Michelle Obama, can you get me her autograph?

Nice to know she thinks I'm important and powerful.

Sigh.

I hope a peek at the Inaugural ball gowns of the First Ladies will make her happy.
