Focus, Mr. President, Focus on Goal #1

Getting people back to work must be first priority

Published on: March 3, 2009

America’s number one goal must be to get people back to work. That’s the message I’ve been getting from this country’s hardest, most dedicated workers – farmers.

And that’s the message all common, nonpolitical – taxpaying – citizens must get across to President Barack Obama and Congress. The world’s economy hinges on getting the U.S. economy back on track.

It can’t be done by talking about “the difficult road ahead” or “the worst is yet to come”. True leaders vision what they want to happen – and act to make it so.

So, Mr. President, focus! Put aside your taxing plans. Put aside your socialized medicine plans, and etc. Focus solely on restoring the public’s confidence in government, and talking up economic recovery.

Let’s hear you celebrate – daily – the successes of people and businesses that are leading the recovery. Ditch the apocalyptic messages! Be a good news leader, not a bad news bearer.

And, Mr. President and Congressperson, stop throwing more bail-out money down the financial well. Let the free market and capitalism work. Provide incentives for the fiscally responsible and let the insolvent suffer – in prison, if warranted.

That’s what America’s hardest workers want. And that seems to be what the stock market drivers are waiting for.

Readers, I encourage you to forward these comments to your congressional representatives. And ask them to pass it along to the President.

    To My Representative:
I watch on TV and read the blogs all in hope that I will hear one small bit of common sense. I did not hear it till I read your blog today. I am an unemployed horse trainer/riding instructor. My husband works on a small dairy in NY, he has been a dairy farmer his whole life, it is all he knows or wants to do. I have been in the horse industry my whole life, I know that my job is risky and know in this time I am in the luxury business. I have tryed to get other jobs, clerical, laborer, anything, but I am looked at as a farm worker who knows nothing. Or in my own field, if I apply for a stall cleaning job, I am over qualified and they do not even interview me. I ask you and President Obama, what do I do? My husband and I would love to start our own farm but frankly who would in this time of 10 dollar milk price. I am a hard working person, I work along side my husband on the dairy, I have trained some rank horse, and I can work in an office but I can not even get an interview. I ask you what do I do? In the past 2 months I have sent out over 100 resumes for various jobs. I would love to get one of President Obama's infrastructure jobs, but what are the odds for the 30 year old woman with only farm experience to get one? I refuse to get unemployment because I feel that right now my husband makes enough to support us and I refuse to be a drain on the system but I also did not know that things would be like this. I have never been out of work this long and have never felt so useless. So I ask again what do I do?
Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion,
