Corn harvest

Corn in field and boots frozen to the floor – statistics and a story from the 2009 harvest.

How much corn is left in the field in North Dakota and South Dakota?

Here are the numbers, according to the ag statistics services in North Dakota and South Dakota.

North Dakota – 29% statewide. The East Central district – think Fargo, Valley City -- has 43% still in the field. The Central District -- think Jamestown, Carrington  -- has 41%. Western North Dakota is in the best shape with only 3-4% of the corn left in the field

South Dakota – 7% statewide. The northern districts are in the worst shape with 11% left in the North Central district and 12% left out in the Northeast district.

The best story I heard about the late harvestwas in my neighbor’s Christmas letter. “Craig took a cat nap in the combine cab and woke up to find his boots frozen to the floor!”
