More than 33% of Vermont's farmers' markets accept EBT (electronic benefit transaction) cards. NOFA-VT and the Wholesome Wave Foundation are partnering to double the EBT benefits by offering Harvest Health coupons at all participating farmer's markets statewide. The coupons give 3squaresVT (formerly known as food stamps) recipients more fresh fruits, vegetables and other market products for their buck at farmers' markets.
It works like this …
3SquaresVT recipients are awarded Harvest Health coupons through the EBT stands at participating farmers' markets. For every 3squaresVT dollar withdrawn, a dollar coupon is granted, with a maximum value of $10 per market visit.
This coupon can purchase any 3SquaresVT-qualified foods sold at the market. The Harvest Health Coupon Project has proven to be a win-win situation for local farmers as well.
3squaresVT, part of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program helps these households gain access to nutritious food and brings over $10 million of federal benefits into Vermont each month.
