You've heard of speed dating where potential partners spend a short time with one, then move on to the next. Well, the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont is sowing a farm version of it called Weed Dating. And the first of a number of such event is set for Saturday, July 25 at Tunbridge Hill Farm, near Tunbridge, Vt.
If a couple can enjoy weeding together, their relationship can probably survive a lot of challenges, right? And in rural America, it's hard enough to find time and a date even in the best of circumstances.
That's why NOFA-VT sprouted the idea to help hard-working singles meet, plus get a little farm work done in the process. These events aim to not only ignite the flames of companionship, and tighten the relationships between farmers and consumers, report NOFA-VT officials. They'll be a chance to bring people to a host farm, meet the farmers, meet their food, meet NOFA-VT, and meet each other.
Singles will receive a farm tour, refreshments, and make connections with other farm and food enthusiasts, all while doing a little light weeding. Farm experience is not required, but please come prepared for an hour of light work.
Registration for a weed dating event is $10 for NOFA-VT members and $15 for non-members. For more information or to register, visit www.nofavt.org . Or call Barbara Richardson at
802-434-4122.
Who knows, this idea might catch fire and spread faster than mile-a-minute.
PULLING TOGETHER: NOFA-VT hopes to put a little romance into weed-pulling with its Weed Dating events.
